Students engage with Codon's textbook replacement

Available with Introducing the Life Sciences, Freeman’s Readiness Readings are:

  • Written for students. Students read only the streamlined content they need for each class session, which reduces their inclination to try to memorize.

  • Active and engaging. Students answer guiding questions while reading and practice metacognition by marking sections clear or muddy.

  • Customizable. Instructors can customize the readings to match what they teach.

  • Assignable. Instructors can assign readings for points and track students’ progress.

  • Aligned to learning objectives. The readings are aligned to editable learning objectives from an NSF consensus study that provide students with clear expectations of what they should know and be able to do (Hennessey and Freeman, 2025).

When assigned for points, 93% of students do the readings prior to class.
