Technical Operations & Integrations Specialist

About Codon

Codon Learning is an education technology company dedicated to improving student success in college biology courses by helping instructors and students implement evidence-based teaching and learning practices. You can learn more about our mission and approach at our website, codonlearning.com

Role Overview

Codon Learning is a small, engineering‑driven education technology company. We are seeking a Technical Operations & Integrations Specialist to support customer onboarding, institutional reviews, release quality, and day‑to‑day operational needs.

The role focuses on execution, coordination, and continuous improvement, rather than owning large formal programs. As gaps are discovered—particularly in security and operational practices—this role will help document, refine, and improve how Codon operates.

Codon is a rapidly growing organization. We need a team member who can help us with some immediate integration and security needs, but also someone who can grow into other technical responsibilities over time. This is a hands‑on, cross‑functional role intended for someone who can wear multiple hats. You will succeed if you think in a detail-oriented way and are intrigued by engineering and technical challenges.

Core Responsibilities

1. Security & Compliance Support

  • Complete institutional security questionnaires (e.g., HECVAT, custom vendor forms) using Codon’s existing documentation.

  • Draft tailored responses where required, coordinating with engineering or leadership as needed.

  • Maintain and improve Codon’s response library, documentation, and supporting artifacts.

  • Identify gaps or inconsistencies surfaced during reviews and help define or document improved security practices.

  • Track questionnaire timelines, follow‑ups, and institutional communications.

  • Explore the use of generative AI to improve the quality and efficiency of our security and compliance program.

Note: this role contributes to improving Codon’s security posture but does not serve as a formal security officer or compliance owner.

2. LMS Integration & Customer Onboarding

  • Configure LMS integrations (primarily LTI 1.3) during onboarding and go‑live.

  • Set up test courses, test users, and validate data flows.

  • Track progress and drive timely completion of the institutional integration process.

  • Assist instructors and institutional LMS administrators with integration troubleshooting.

  • Document institution‑specific configuration details and onboarding lessons learned.

3. Quality Assurance & Release Testing

  • Help test new capabilities of the platform with every release.

  • Execute manual test plans for new releases across core application workflows.

  • Help research and implement automated testing strategies, especially through the use of generative AI.

  • Reproduce, document, and clearly communicate bugs to engineering.

  • Help maintain regression checklists and release readiness notes.

  • Help us learn to automate more of our testing to improve quality and efficiency.

4. DevOps & Operational Support

  • Assist with incident response and production issue troubleshooting, including reviewing application logs, tracing errors, documenting findings, and coordinating follow-ups and helping identify root causes.

  • Support deployments of new features and technologies, including validation and post-deployment checks.

  • Help automate deployment steps for stacks and services that are not yet fully automated.

As Codon grows, this area of responsibility can expand significantly. This role is well-suited for someone interested in deepening their experience in DevOps and cloud environments. Over time, responsibilities may evolve to include more traditional DevOps functions, including infrastructure management, CI/CD improvements, deployment automation, monitoring, and reliability practices.

Skills & Experience

Required

  • BA in a STEM degree or equivalent.

  • At least 2 years of experience in a related position, such as a technical help desk or working in roles related to cybersecurity.

  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills.

  • Strong technical literacy and comfort working with web applications.

  • Ability to read logs, follow request flows, and troubleshoot systematically.

  • Clear written communication, especially with institutional stakeholders.

  • Comfort working from documentation and knowing when to escalate questions.

Nice‑to‑Have

  • Experience with LMS platforms (Canvas, Blackboard, D2L, Moodle, Sakai).

  • Familiarity with LTI 1.3 concepts.

  • Prior exposure to security questionnaires (HECVAT, SOC‑style reviews).

  • QA, release testing, or operational support experience.

  • Basic familiarity with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS) or CI/CD workflows.

Why This Role Exists

This role consolidates operational work that currently pulls time from engineering and leadership. It helps Codon scale responsibly by improving onboarding consistency, release confidence, and security documentation—without adding unnecessary process or bureaucracy.

What This Role Can Become

A successful candidate in this role will have the opportunity to grow into more senior roles as our organization grows. This might include dedicated roles in Security, Quality Assurance or DevOps.
